Saturday was our free day to do whatever we wanted, and of course, it rained buckets. A real toad strangling gulley washer. Everybody and his brother was in town too. Kinda wished I had some safety glasses trying to avoid getting poked in the eye by an umbrella tine. It was a challenge. I'm surprised nobody lost an eye.
Rain always makes it easy to sleep in, so me and my pal Kate got a late start. At first we thought we'd try indoor sites like museums and such, but we both quickly realized that you can only look at so many artifacts and statues before they all start to look the same.
So, we braved Mother Nature to see some of the big sites...Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Ancient Rome & the Colosseum. Lotsa walking and lotsa rain equals lotsa tired. Too bad we only had one day. Would love to go back and explore more about the history of the early Christian church in Rome. To think that Paul & Peter walked these same streets and both died here for their unwavering belief in Christ. If only I could be like Jesus, and believe like Paul & Peter. Lofty goals. Aim high.
