Shannon to Killarney

Day 2 - May 12

Got off the plane from the overnight flight at 7am Ireland time, 2am GA time. Too excited to be tired! A shower would have been nice though. We piled on the bus, all 31 of us, and headed toward The Burren - A huge outcrop of limestone by the ocean covered with all kinds of little plants that shouldn't grow in that area. Nice first stop.

Next, on to the Cliffs of Moher. The weather couldn't have been better - really blue sky, not too cold, very breezy. The cliffs stretch for 7 miles up the coast. I'd have liked to seen more, but not enough time (a common theme of the trip). One of my favorite places.

Since we were all wiped out, our leaders ended the site seeing for the day and we headed toward Killarney. The roads are so narrow and twisty! Pat, the bus driver, did great.(appropriate name for an Irish bus driver, don't ya think?) We crossed the Shannon River on a ferry (I never knew you could put a whole bus on a ferry) and jet lag hit me like a ton of bricks! Once into the hotel in Killarney, my roommate Robyn and I had a challenge with the power. It took a while to figure out that we had to put our keycard in a slot on the wall for the room's electricity to work. They are very conservation conscious over there - everybody had clotheslines in their backyard too. Walked around town a little. Almost bought a penny whistle - wish I had! Again, would've liked to have had more time to explore. Small town Irish folks are A-OK in my book! Need to go back!
